Inversion of Capitalism & Investment in Literature

I Believe...Not You

Capitalism is not just fundamentally flawed, it is an extinction activity for humanity if left unchecked. While capitalism benefits society through innovation spurred by competition, this benefit limits to things that create profit. No matter how you feel about capitalism, whether evil or Jesus sent, facts are facts: it is fraught with corruption and ethical issues. The reality of a person (don't say company because companies are comprised of people) could deny another person proper healthcare to maintain profitability is a testament to the immorality this economic system fosters. Whether you agree or not doesn't matter because reality dictates capitalism places price tags on everything, including the arts and literature. I believe most rational people would agree this is a problem since there are many things which should not be commodified, like literature and creative arts.

Inversion of Capitalism

The inversion of capitalism is a radical rethinking of how we value creative work and the artists behind it. Instead of prioritizing profit above all else, we must recognize the intrinsic value of literature and the long-term benefits it brings to society. If you believe in the literature innate value, then the tBook becomes a tool to amplify this value. Ultimately, books, arts, film, podcasts, and other forms of creative art must be provided a monetary value in order for capitalism to not ignore them.

One of the most interesting aspects of this inversion is the use of one store of value (bitcoin) to support another store of value (literature), allowing for both to grow at a very low cost. Bitcoin despite its extreme rate of appreciation, still suffers intense criticism. Detractors see bitcoin as a solution seeking a problem. It is a technology that serves as a new form of digital currency, but has little real-world value for lacking tangible usefulness. Unlike gold or rare earth minerals, bitcoin cannot be fashioned into jewelry or other technology-dependent goods. This raises questions about the nature of a store of value when it has no tangible use.

I think this thinking is a lack of imagination.

As society advances, we must find ways to support arts and literature which continue to push towards new methods of dissemination. Ebooks were a thing of science fiction, not so long ago, but now most books take this form. This is not a bad thing because it makes them portable and accessible to everyone who can afford them. Bitcoin solves the issue of accessibility by providing a new way to fund and support creative works through investment. The embedding of Bitcoin into the creative work creates a store of value propping or really kickstarting the intrinsic worth of literature. As such, Bitcoin combines with the arts, and now the currency that lacks tangible use and art with lack of monetary value, form a store of value that grows over time, benefitting both.

Ultimately, literature and all art for that matter must become a long-term investment.

Long-Term Investment in Literature

A book is a long-term investment in knowledge, culture, and creativity. Capitalism strips this potential away because it teaches people to value only that which has tangible use or produces financial profit. By recognizing the long-term value of literature, we invest in a future where these vital expressions of humanity can thrive and evolve. We achieve this end by inverting capitalism and removing the marketing and sales functions from literature. First we invest in our art, second we invest in our readers, and ultimately we invest in society by incentivising these arts.

Every book is valued at a dollar when it is printed, by keeping the starting cost low we ensure that literature remains accessible and appreciable. If you print copies just for yourself, year after year, you can expect to see a significant return based on bitcoin's historic rate of appreciation.
